Secondary title: What do we know about dinosaurs?
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis aims at evaluating the project of closed-ended problem solving as a learning approach in the preschool period. This method of research enables children to aquire learning experiences and social and physical environment input through their own activity. Developing metacognitive skills, active learning positively affects a child's cognitive development. Within our research project titled ''What do we know about dinosaurs?'' the children learned how to collect information and formulate their own concepts. This type of learning led the children into cooperating, planning, searching information and developing a critical mind. While researching, their own activity construed their knowledge on the research topic. The theoretical part first illustrates learning characteristics in the preschool period, then it focuses on active learning , and finally it represents project work as a method of active learning. The empirical part of the thesis comprises solving closed-ended problems within the topi c of ''''What do we know about dinosaurs?''. The period of the dinosaurs was being explored, different types of dinosaurs recognised, we even tried ourselves as paleonthologists. The purpose of this diploma thesis is to study the advantages and disadvantages of active learning using the method of solving problems and researching.

Empirični del zajema raziskovanje problema zaprtega tipa z naslovom Kaj vemo o dinozavrih. Z otroki smo raziskovali obdobje življenja dinozavrov, prepoznavali smo različne vrste dinozavrov, se preizkušali v vlogi paleontologa … Namen diplomske naloge je preučiti prednosti in pomanjkljivosti aktivnega učenja z metodo raziskovanja.
