Abstract

Secondary title: CHILDREN'S SWIMMING LESSON PROGRESS
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis Children's Swimming Lesson Progress consists of a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part describes a child's first contact with water with the help of several literary sources. It also describes the importance of learning how to swim from various standpoints, psychomotor learning and motoric transfer, positive effects of swimming on all areas of children's development, the use of swimming aids, and most importantly play-time in the water that lets children express themselves in a very natural way. The empiric part presents the research results that were obtained with a causal non-experimental method, with which it was attempted to establish a possible connection between the children's age and their success in adapting to the water during the learning process throughout the course of swimming lessons. The study included a non-probability sample of 76 children from the first five elementary school grades in Maribor. Half of the children were older than 81 months, and the other half were younger. It was concluded that the success of swimming lessons does not depend on the children's age.
