Abstract

Secondary title: THE EFFECT OF POPULAR MUSIC ON THE TEACHING CONTENTS OF PARTS CONSTITUTING THE WHOLE IN FIFTH CLASS
Secondary abstract: The thesis entitled The effect of popular music on teaching the teaching content of parts of the whole focuses on the influence of popular music on learning and teaching mathematics. Media-equipped classrooms offer the opportunity of using diverse ICT technology and that is exactly what we took advantage of for incorporating popular music in learning process. We presented the effect of music on learning process as well we introduced the teaching content of fractions' Additionally, we presented how this particular content is included in the curriculum. The empirical part of the thesis covers a research that was carried out as a pedagogical experiment. In the term of the research the learning process was conducted in two fifth classes. The pedagogical experiment lasted for two weeks and included an experimental class where we played popular music and the control class. The lessons in experimental class were accompanied by musical background during motivational introduction and practicing. On the contrary, the lessons in the other class were not accompanied by the musical background. However, the same teaching aids as in the first class were used. We tested the knowledge of pupils in both classes after the experiment had been conducted and compared it with their prior knowledge. The results have shown that the knowledge of the experimental group exceeds the knowledge of the control group, however, the difference is not statistically significant. A larger part of the experimental group agreed upon a positive effect of music during the conducted lessons.
