»What will hatch from the egg?« – preschool children learn about animal egg development |

A hands-on experience is key for a child to form realistic impressions and create a an appropriate relationship towards living creatures. All this can be most easily and successfully gained through daily nurturing of animals and plants in the playground. Therefore through daily care of a living organism a child observes its development, becomes aware of its life needs, its procreation and eating habits thereby developing a responsible and positive attitude towards animals.
In my diploma thesis I researched how much children can learn from animals hatched from eggs by employing an active learning method and how their attitude towards these animals changes over the time of familiarisation. I selected the animals for which I deemed the children to be familiar with. However I anticipated that the children were not that knowledgeable of their life beginning.
This is why we kept snail eggs and observed the development of snails, chicken eggs and observed the development of chicks. We also kept a frog's spawn and observed the development of frogs. We appropriately cared for the animals in the playground and ensured suitable conditions for their development and continuously observed them during the process.
The children completed an oral questionnaire survey before and during the implementation of the project. An analysis of the results showed that the children by employing active learning through hands-on experience gained a lot of knowledge on eggs and animals that hatched from the eggs. Their attitude towards animals also changed as they developed a respectful and responsible attitude towards animals. |

Vse to, si otrok najlažje in najbolj uspešno pridobi z vsakodnevnim gojenjem živali in rastlin v igralnici.
