The impact of yoga and massages to students in learning mathematics |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The thesis examines the influence of yoga and various massages on pupils while learning maths. The theoretical part, which is founded on creative movement, touches on relaxation in a separate chapter because different relaxation techniques can enhance creativity. The chapter dedicated to relaxation provides a description of several relaxation techniques with respect to their use and benefits they can offer to pupils. As we only focused on yoga and massage in the empirical part, the thesis gives a comprehensive description of the two techniques. We integrated yoga exercises and massage into maths lessons, where pupils have to be highly active mentally. As a result, they often encounter difficulties with understanding and grasping mathematical concepts. It is my personal belief that children need some relaxation before starting their lessons. We conducted yoga exercises at the beginning of the lesson, while massages were optional and could be given during the lesson. The experiment was conducted in two fourth grades of primary school, with 17 maths lessons given in each class. Both relaxation techniques were only applied in the experimental group. Maths lessons in the control group did not involve relaxation. In the empirical part we explored the following questions: do yoga and massages improve the perception and understanding of mathematical concepts; do they help expand mathematical knowledge; and are children more focused on the lessons owing to the two techniques. Moreover, we tried to determine whether yoga and massages contribute to better interpersonal relations and improve the atmosphere in the class. Results show that the pupils in the experimental group were more focused on their lessons. Their perception and understanding of mathematical content was better and their knowledge improved more rapidly than in the control group. Their progress was particularly visible in the assessment results, which indicated that the pupils from the experimental group generally did better than the pupils from the control group. Findings suggest that yoga exercises and massages do not improve interpersonal relationships. However, they do improve the atmosphere in the class. |

Jogijske vaje in masaže sem vključila v predmet matematika, ker so ravno pri tem predmetu učenci miselno zelo aktivni in imajo velikokrat težave z razumevanjem in sprejemanjem matematičnih vsebin. |
