magistrsko delo

ǂThe ǂrelationship between facebook use, self-esteem and subjective well-being |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The main purpose of this master's thesis was to investigate the relationship between Facebook use, self-esteem and subjective well-being. In this context, we were focused on the process of social comparison. The study involved 273 participants. The average age of participants was 22, ranging from 19 to 35 years. In collecting the data, we used the following scales and questionnaires: Facebook intensity scale FBIS, Facebook usage types questionnaire, Facebook Social Comparison scale, Satisfaction with life scale SWLS and Rosenberg self-esteem scale RSES. The main conclusion is that people, who intensively use Facebook, do more social comparisons. It was also shown that individuals, who frequently participate in the process of upward social comparison, have lower self-esteem, but it has not been shown that individuals, who frequently participate in the process of downward social comparison, have higher self-esteem. Results mostly do not indicate the expected trends. It turns out that there is no connection between intensive use of Facebook and self-esteem. Also, there is no statistically significant relationship between passive Facebook usage, self-esteem and subjective well-being. Active Facebook usage is positively associated with subjective well-being, while the correlation of self-esteem and active use is not statistically significant. |
