Abstract

Grimmove pravljice so bile izbrane na podlagi tega, saj jih pozna skoraj vsak otrok in ker so ravno otroci najbolj kritična ciljna publika.

Secondary title: Comparison of selected Slovenian translations of five Grimmʹs fairy tales
Secondary abstract: In the graduation thesis we have made a comparison of Slovene translations of five Grimm's fairy tales. We have focused on literary translation, especially on translating for children and the youth. From each of the three collections of Grimm's fairy tales in Slovene we have chosen five translated fairy tales, which were used in our analysis. Selected translations were compared to the original and later we made a comparison among the translations to demonstrate the differences and similarities. We have chosen Grimm's fairy tales because almost every child knows them and because children are the most critical target audience. Translating for children is one of the most difficult forms of translation and translators are aware of that. That is why the analysis is focused on readers and their comprehension of translation and with that we could decide if the translation is understandable or not to the children. We have found out that all translations are well written and that the translators have exceptional sense for children because they made fairy tales understandable to the youngest audience. It was proved that a text could be translated in many different ways and be still adequate to the original, which points out the dynamism of Slovene language.
